My series of little forest creatures is a celebration of the quiet delights that come from looking closely at growing things.

This chipmunk was inspired by “February feelings.” In November, when the temperatures drop and the snow flies, it’s fun to bundle up in warm sweaters, wooly long underwear and thick socks. I love skiing, making soup and tromping through snowy woods on our yearly Christmas tree hunt. But winter is looong in southwest Montana. Our last frost is usually sometime in late May. But every year, by mid-February I’ve already started missing flowers. So I start daydreaming about them and thinking about the promise that spring will come again. That’s where I got the idea to make this little chipmunk, bundled up against the cold in the promise of flowers.
