My series of little forest creatures is a celebration of the quiet delights that come from looking closely at growing things.

This piece is all about that yellow! These marigolds were so brightly colored that they practically glowed against the dark soil of the garden bed. I wanted to recreate that glow in my painting. Marigolds aren’t particularly fragrant, but something about that smell floods me with a visceral, earthy feeling of warmth and comfort. I have no idea why! But I like to imagine that it comes from some forgotten joy. Maybe there were marigolds nearby during one of my happiest childhood moments.
